I’ve often heard it said, “Do what you love and the money will follow.”
That’s not a given.
I wholeheartedly agree with the first half. Individual lives and our world as a whole would be much better off if people pursued their hearts’ desires.
But passion doesn’t automatically create income.
Some will be rewarded when their passion is expressed in a way that connects with others in a way they will pay for.
For the rest, making a living (or just money) will need to be taken into account.
Become passionate about marketing
For some, learning about their need for marketing has created a passion for the marketing itself. Many internet marketers seems to have begun this way and now make money purely from their passion for marketing.
Use your non-marketing passion to fuel your marketing efforts
Marketing can end up being another undesirable task for business owners. You can offset your resistance by channeling your passion into the need for marketing. For example, a fly-fisherman can use his passion and desire to get through the less-attractive marketing, knowing its success will enable continued investment in fly-fishing.
Hire someone passionate about marketing
If marketing is just not your thing, hire someone else who is passionate about it. You do what you love and they do what they love.
Get a ‘good enough’ job for the money and fulfill your passions as hobbies
It can be a good balance to have a job that pays the bills while using your free time to dive into your passions. These can even grow over time to the point of having potential to replace the initial job.
Whatever your situation, I encourage you to make it a goal to bring more of your passion into your daily life. You, and the world around you, will be better for it.
